Beaune 1er Cru Cuvée Guigone de Salins

Domaine des Hospices de Beaune

Albert Bichot’s view

Beautiful deep ruby color. Powerful, yet delicate nose, dominated by red berries, followed by mellow, smoky oak. Long on the palate, with great density and racy tannins.

Food pairings

Enjoy with red meats cooked over a wood fire (grilled prime rib) or strong cheeses.

A remarkable woman like Guigone des Salins deserves a remarkable cuvée! This is due to the high proportion of Les Bressandes climat. Its parcels are located on the upper slopes, combining power and lightness according to the clay content. Thanks to Champimonts and its ferruginous, stony soils, the cuvée is solid over time. The Seurrey just opposite, in the same vein as the Champimonts, fills out the mid-palate. This is an emblematic cuvée of our institution that we faithfully love every year. It's a sure bet.

Vinification and aging

This Beaune 1er Cru Cuvée Guigone de Salins has been skilfully vinified by the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune. Sold every year at the Hospices auction on the 3rd Sunday in November, Albert Bichot regularly buys this great wine on behalf of clients who then entrust us with its ageing in our cellars. During this important period, thanks to meticulous work and the blending of a variety of barrels, we further develop its complexity and potential.

Le Domaine des Hospices de Beaune est certifié bio depuis la récolte 2024 et bien entendu nous élevons dans nos caves Albert Bichot ce vin en respectant cette philosophie respectueuse de l’environnement.

History of the cuvée

Wife of Nicolas Rolin, founder of the Hospices de Beaune, Guigone de Salins moved from Autun to Beaune in 1461, after her husband's death, to take charge of the Hôtel-Dieu. She devoted much of her fortune to supporting patients until her death at the age of 67. The longevity of this famous Cuvée is one of the most remarkable of all Beaunes. Almost half of it comes from the Bressandes vineyard, planted in the 1960s, 1977 and 1980 on steep slopes.
