How to buy at the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges auction: from 1 bottle to 1 barrel with Albert Bichot
Two options to buy at the Hospices de Nuits auction, from one bottle to a full barrel with Albert Bichot
A major buyer at Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges for decades (and very frequently buyer number 1), Albert Bichot offers two options for participating in these exceptional auctions:
1. Buy one bottle or more of a Nuits-Saint-Georges village or premier cru cuvée, from our own Albert Bichot selection. This works on the same collective purchasing principle that we offer since 2009 for the Hospices de Beaune auction.
2. The purchase of a full barrel (288 bottles after ageing) or a portion of a barrel, from among the 19 wines on sale. A 100% bespoke project.
Option 1: buy from a bottle - an Albert Bichot exclusive
After numerous tastings prior to the auction, as well as according to the prices during the auction, we will choose a cuvée of Nuits-Saint-Georges village and a cuvée of Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru. We have defined a maximum hammer price for these two wines and therefore a maximum price per bottle before the auction.
Ordering procedures are the same as for the Hospices de Beaune auctions, which you can view on this page. The online store opens a few weeks before the auction.
Wines from a harvest in year N will be shipped in autumn N+2, after the wines have matured in our cellar As an option (for a fee), you can personalize the Hospices de Nuits label with your buyer's name. Also as an option, you can convert all or part of your purchase into magnums and jeroboams.
Option 2: buy a whole barrel (or a fraction of a barrel 1/2 or 1/4)
To buy a whole barrel (288 bottles) or a portion of a barrel at the Hospices de Nuits auction, simply register and Jean-David Camus will be in touch with you very quickly. This gives you access to all the vintages sold at auction, in a 100% made-to-measure project. We can also welcome you in Burgundy, by reservation, during this exceptional weekend to let you experience the auction from the inside at our side. Don't hesitate to contact us.
Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges auction: the main principles
Every 2nd Sunday in March, the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges auction is a not-to-be-missed event for all lovers of fine Burgundy wines. Each lot sold at auction corresponds to a certain number of 228-liter casks, known as pièces. One barrel corresponds to 288 75-cl bottles after ageing. The money raised during the auction (over 1 million Euros) will enable the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges to take good care of its patients and its winegrowing heritage. The wines are sold as cuvées, blends of several parcels or from a single parcel as the case may be. Albert Bichot's mission is to help you understand and choose the wine that's right for you, in terms of style, taste and price. As with the Hospices de Beaune sale, the wines are sold en primeur, around 6 months after the harvest. After the auction, they are aged with extreme care in the Albert Bichot cellars in the center of Beaune, for around 12 months. This is the time we need to bring them to their peak, before bottling them and shipping them to our customers, professionals and connoisseurs around the world.
