The Hospices de Beaune cuvée in the Echezeaux Grand Cru appellation
The style of Echezeaux Grand Cru wines
Unique in its kind, this jewel of the Côte de Nuits is distinguished by a subtle alliance between immediate charm and structured depth, giving rise to wines that are at once seductive, nuanced and of great finesse. Often more accessible in their youth than other red grands crus, Echezeaux nevertheless reveal their full dimension with a few years' cellaring, when their complexity fully expresses itself and confirms their rank.
In this prestigious appellation, Pinot Noir is a deep ruby color, sometimes with purple highlights in younger vintages. The nose generally opens with delicate red fruits - cherry, raspberry, redcurrant - accompanied by floral notes of rose and violet, a hallmark of its elegance. As the wine evolves, deeper nuances of black fruit and mocha appear, sometimes mingling with slightly animal (leather, truffle) or peppery touches. This aromatic palette gains in complexity with age, without ever losing the freshness and distinction characteristic of the terroir.
On the palate, Échezeaux Grand Cru seduces with its silky, harmonious texture. The attack is supple yet precise, supported by fine tannins that structure the whole without heaviness. The balance between fruit, freshness and substance gives the wine good length and a lingering sensation of elegance. Over time, the best vintages develop even greater depth and complexity, and the tannins gradually refine, confirming their excellent ageing potential, which can extend over several decades. Patience is always rewarded!

The terroir of Echezeaux
Located in the commune of Flagey-Échezeaux, on the border with Vosne-Romanée, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, the majority of this great terroir faces east-south-east. It benefits from optimum sunshine from morning to early afternoon, while the altitude, between 240 and 300 meters, favors slow, even ripening of the Pinot Noir grapes, guaranteeing concentration and aromatic finesse.
The appellation's terroir is fairly heterogeneous, but essentially composed of clay-limestone soils. The clay surface, often red or brown, lends structure and density to the wines, while the underlying limestone and marl provide finesse, tension and minerality. Some plots feature small pebbles or gravels, improving drainage and heat retention, essential elements for harmonious fruit development and wine complexity. In the end, this unique terroir gives Échezeaux Grand Cru remarkable complexity and a subtle balance between density and elegance.

Etymology & history
The name Échezeaux has its roots in the ancient Gallo-Roman and Old French word "chezaux" or "chezeaux", which originally meant a group of dwellings or a hamlet - in other words, a small group of houses or buildings that have long since disappeared. It is also found in similar forms in other Burgundy communes (e.g. "Aux Echézeaux" in Gevrey-Chambertin or "Les Echesaux" in Chambolle-Musigny).
Over the centuries, Échezeaux has had a history intimately linked to that of the great estates of the Côte de Nuits. In the XVIIIᵉ century, it was among the lands coveted by Burgundian monasteries and nobles, who already recognized the exceptional quality of its wines.
Among the highlights, Échezeaux stands out for its mosaic of climats, with over thirty lieux-dits listed, making it a complex and varied vineyard. Each bottle is a testament to Burgundian savoir-faire and the richness of this unique terroir.
