Beaune 1er Cru Cuvée Dames Hospitalières

Domaine des Hospices de Beaune

Albert Bichot’s view

Intense purple color. Generous floral bouquet on the nose. Fruity on the palate, with subtle, almost airy tannins.

Food pairings

Sophisticated aperitifs, meals with friends and fine home cooking (duck parmentier, boeuf bourguignon).

This cuvée is composed of Bressandes, Teurons and Mignottes; climates as religiously chosen as the cuvée's name. While the Bressandes at the top of the slopes, with their light, marly soil, bring finesse, it's unquestionably with the Teurons, with their rockier marl, that the mid-palate is dense and salty. The Clos de la Mignotte, with its very old vines, supports all this with a full-bodied, tannic character. It's a wine that combines suppleness and robustness, a fine tribute to the Community of Sisters.

Vinification and aging

This Beaune 1er Cru Cuvée Dames Hospitalières has been skilfully vinified by the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune. Sold every year at the Hospices auction on the 3rd Sunday in November, Albert Bichot regularly buys this great wine on behalf of clients who then entrust us with its ageing in our cellars. During this important period, thanks to meticulous work and the blending of a variety of barrels, we further develop its complexity and potential.

The Domaine des Hospices de Beaune has been certified organic since the 2024 harvest, and we naturally age your wine in our Albert Bichot cellars in line with this environmentally-friendly philosophy.

History of the cuvée

Traditionally, the Hospices de Beaune wine auction begins with the auction of this beautiful Cuvée. It is named after the nuns who cared for the sick from the time the Hospices was founded in 1443, some of whom even made substantial bequests to the institution. Originally from Saint-Omer in northern France, the nuns had trained at the Hospice de Valenciennes, located on today's French-Belgian border.
