Pommard Cuvée Suzanne Chaudron

Domaine des Hospices de Beaune

Albert Bichot’s view

A classic Pommard with a fine balance of freshness, elegance and tension. Powerful bouquet of black fruit that continues on the palate. Classic indeed, but a very interesting cuvée des Hospices.

Food pairings

Eggs en meurette, andouillette, duck confit, chestnut soup.

Facing south-east, Noizons and Petits Noizons dominate this cuvée, where volume and finesse are fully expressed. In a cooler zone, Chanière still gives the cuvée a "graphite" touch and makes it more digestible on the finish, with a fine salinity. Croix Planet is well represented, with its robustness derived from thicker clays. It's probably the best compromise in terms of ageing between the Domaine's 3 Pommard cuvées, as it can be enjoyed younger than the other two.

Vinification and aging

This Pommard Cuvée Suzanne Chaudron has been skilfully vinified by the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune. Sold every year at the Hospices auction on the 3rd Sunday in November, Albert Bichot regularly buys this great wine on behalf of clients who then entrust us with its ageing in our cellars. During this important period, thanks to meticulous work and the blending of a variety of barrels, we further develop its complexity and potential.

Le Domaine des Hospices de Beaune est certifié bio depuis la récolte 2024 et bien entendu nous élevons dans nos caves Albert Bichot ce vin en respectant cette philosophie respectueuse de l’environnement.

History of the cuvée

When the Cyrot-Chaudron couple donated their vineyards to the Hospices de Beaune in 1979, the donation included several parcels of very old vines which, in perfect condition and producing small harvests of fine grapes, have been preserved.
Although there is virtually no premier cru in this Cuvée, 40% of the vines pre-date 1959, with the oldest parcel dating back to 1910. More than a third of the Cuvée (35%) comes from the low-yielding southeastern slopes of Petits Noizons, which dominate northern Pommard.
