Meursault Cuvée Loppin

Domaine des Hospices de Beaune

Albert Bichot’s view

This cuvée has a beautiful, intense light yellow color. A seductive nose of flowers and fruit, followed by the classic density of a fine Meursault, with a hint of hazelnut that will assert itself with age. Well-balanced acidity.

Food pairings

Traditional gougères, mussels with cream and herbs, grilled fish with fennel.

The cuvée comprises part of the 1er cru "Les Cras" and the classified Meursault Village "Les Criots" terroir. South-east-facing, Les Cras rests on a clay-limestone soil, stony and sloping, bringing finesse to the wine. Les Criots, located at the bottom of the hillside with a greater thickness of clay, forms the "body" of the cuvée.

Vinification and aging

This Meursault Cuvée Loppin has been skilfully vinified by the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune. Sold every year at the Hospices auction on the 3rd Sunday in November, Albert Bichot regularly buys this great wine on behalf of clients who then entrust us with its ageing in our cellars. During this important period, thanks to meticulous work and the blending of a variety of barrels, we further develop its complexity and potential.

Le Domaine des Hospices de Beaune est certifié bio depuis la récolte 2024 et bien entendu nous élevons dans nos caves Albert Bichot ce vin en respectant cette philosophie respectueuse de l’environnement.

History of the cuvée

The Loppin family, several of whose members have made donations to the Hôtel-Dieu and the Hospice de la Charité over the years, played an early role in the history of the Hospices de Beaune. In 1656, Jéhan Loppin, Archdeacon, received Queen Christine of Sweden in front of the Collégiale Notre-Dame de Beaune. Two years later, he delivered a harangue in the presence of Queen Mother Anne of Austria and her son, King Louis XIV. Part of this Cuvée comes from the Premier Cru Les Cras, and part from a village vineyard, Les Criots. The vines of Premier Cru Les Cras date back to 1980. 0.2 ha. of Les Criots were planted in 1997, the rest (0.36 ha.) in 2009.
