Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Cuvée Cyrot Chaudron

Domaine des Hospices de Beaune

Albert Bichot’s view

Bright, intense color. Complex nose with a blend of red and black fruits, hints of mint and liquorice. Subtle yet powerful on the palate, showing the inner strength of this grand cru. Impressive ageing potential.

Food pairings

Coq au vin, entrecôte, truffle risotto.

Grand Cru located to the north of the Morey St Denis commune, close to Gevrey Chambertin. The parcel faces east and lies on a gently sloping mid-slope where shallow limestone rock outcrops. This area, known as Froichots, dries out very quickly and ripens early, all of which helps to produce a long-keeping wine with a dense, refined tannic richness. The finish is often energetic and highly perfumed. This racy, great wine often displays graphite notes in its youth. It has great ageing potential.

Vinification and aging

This Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Cuvée Cyrot Chaudron has been skilfully vinified by the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune. Sold every year at the Hospices auction on the 3rd Sunday in November, Albert Bichot regularly buys this great wine on behalf of clients who then entrust us with its ageing in our cellars. During this important period, thanks to meticulous work and the blending of a variety of barrels, we further develop its complexity and potential.

Le Domaine des Hospices de Beaune est certifié bio depuis la récolte 2024 et bien entendu nous élevons dans nos caves Albert Bichot ce vin en respectant cette philosophie respectueuse de l’environnement.

History of the cuvée

A donation from Mr. and Mrs. Cyrot-Chaudron enabled the purchase of rows of vines in the heart of the gentle slope of the Grands Crus hill, between Morey-Saint-Denis and Gevrey-Chambertin. In 1991, Clos de la Roche became the second Côte de Nuits vineyard to be acquired by the Hospices, after Mazis-Chambertin in 1976. Two-thirds of the vines were planted in 1972 or earlier. The rarity and beauty of this wine make it one of the most coveted Cuvées year after year.
