Meursault Charmes 1er Cru Cuvée Bahezre de Lanlay

Domaine des Hospices de Beaune

Albert Bichot’s view

Pale yellow color. The nose bears witness to the concentration of this cuvée, with white fruit and pear. Round, fleshy balance typical of this terroir, with benevolent acidity. The finish is the hallmark of a great Chardonnay.

Food pairings

Veal chop with morel mushrooms, fillet of sole with beurre blanc, a very old ewe's milk cheese.

The "Charmes" climat is the largest in Meursault, with around 31 hectares in production. This cuvée is made in equal parts from "Charmes du Dessus" and "du Dessous", both facing east on marly limestone. Together, these climates produce a concentrated, harmonious wine, both fat and elegant, fleshy and open after 5 or 6 years.

Vinification and aging

This Meursault Charmes 1er Cru Cuvée Bahezre de Lanlay has been skilfully vinified by the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune. Sold every year at the Hospices auction on the 3rd Sunday in November, Albert Bichot regularly buys this great wine on behalf of clients who then entrust us with its ageing in our cellars. During this important period, thanks to meticulous work and the blending of a variety of barrels, we further develop its complexity and potential.

Le Domaine des Hospices de Beaune est certifié bio depuis la récolte 2024 et bien entendu nous élevons dans nos caves Albert Bichot ce vin en respectant cette philosophie respectueuse de l’environnement.

History of the cuvée

Louis de Bahèzre de Lanlay, an inspector of telegraph lines, bequeathed his fortune to the Hospices de Beaune in 1884, enabling the construction of several care facilities. The Cuvée is the larger in quantity of the two Cuvées de Meursault-Charmes of the Domaine des Hospices, and often the more mineral in character. It is made half from Charmes du Dessous, planted in 1947, and half from Charmes du Dessus, planted in 1946.
