To fully understand this cuvée, we need to focus on Beaune's finest terroirs (Avaux, Grèves, Champimonts, Boucherottes). These 4 blended climates give strength but also finesse to this cuvée. Make no mistake, finesse is not incompatible with concentration and depth; the Avaux have their say. They are framed from attack to finish by the refinement of the Grèves (at the very top of the hillside) and the solidity of the clay-dominated Champimonts and Boucherottes. Thsi cuvée is always made with style.

Vinification and aging
This Beaune 1er Cru Cuvée Maurice Drouhin has been skilfully vinified by the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune. Sold every year at the Hospices auction on the 3rd Sunday in November, Albert Bichot regularly buys this great wine on behalf of clients who then entrust us with its ageing in our cellars. During this important period, thanks to meticulous work and the blending of a variety of barrels, we further develop its complexity and potential.
The Domaine des Hospices de Beaune has been certified organic since the 2024 harvest, and we naturally age your wine in our Albert Bichot cellars in line with this environmentally-friendly philosophy.
History of the cuvée
Maurice Drouhin was for many years Administrator of the Hospices de Beaune, then Vice-Chairman of the Institution's Administrative Commission from 1941 to 1955. At the same time, he managed the Joseph Drouhin wine merchant-breeder company. His generous donation of high-quality vineyards constitutes one of the largest areas of Beaune Premier Cru in the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune. It covers 2.69 hectares, with 40% in Les Avaux, 25% in Les Champs Pimonts, 25% in Les Boucherottes and the remainder in Les Grèves.
