The robustness of Climat des Cent Vignes is a fitting tribute to the Hospices co-founder's Nicolas Rolin's memory. This deep terroir anchors the cuvée in the register of power and generosity. Its structure is completed by the Teurons and their rocky marls, which lighten it with their minerality. Together, in a lesser proportion, the Grèves, Genêts and Bressandes build a refined attack and finesse on the finish. An unquestionable cuvee for laying down!

Vinification and aging

This Beaune 1er Cru Cuvée Nicolas Rolin has been skilfully vinified by the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune. Sold every year at the Hospices auction on the 3rd Sunday in November, Albert Bichot regularly buys this great wine on behalf of clients who then entrust us with its ageing in our cellars. During this important period, thanks to meticulous work and the blending of a variety of barrels, we further develop its complexity and potential.

History of the cuvée

Nicolas Rolin, Chancellor to Philippe le Bon, Duke of Burgundy, decided to found the Hôtel-Dieu de Beaune in 1443. By 1452, nuns from a Flanders confraternity were able to welcome and care for the first patients in the large Salle des Pôvres. This Cuvée was enlarged in 1963 thanks to a bequest from Madame Maurice Pallegoix, in memory of her husband who was mayor of Demigny. The oldest plots in this Cuvée are Les Cent Vignes (54% of the planted area), and Les Teurons (19%), which were planted between 1953 and 1975, and 1950 and 1955 respectively.
