Beaune 1er Cru Cuvée Rousseau Deslandes

Domaine des Hospices de Beaune

Albert Bichot’s view

Beautifully intense color foreshadows a complex, lively and inspiring nose of red and black fruits. A Beaune cuvée that still offers a beautiful, suave texture.

Food pairings

Mushroom risotto, rack of lamb with herbs, semi-strong cheeses

Its high proportion of Climat des Cent Vignes could make it a close rival to the Nicolas Rolin cuvée. But the nuance, in saltier and more "airy" terms, comes from the cuvée's 2 other climats: Montrevenots and Clos de la Mignotte. Both rest on more chalky marls, which guarantee supple, elegant textures. The density, depth and, above all, power on the finish come unquestionably from the deep clay of Les Cent Vignes. A medium-age cuvee, which often reveals itself in its youth.

Vinification and aging

This Beaune 1er Cru Cuvée Rousseau Deslandes has been skilfully vinified by the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune. Sold every year at the Hospices auction on the 3rd Sunday in November, Albert Bichot regularly buys this great wine on behalf of clients who then entrust us with its ageing in our cellars. During this important period, thanks to meticulous work and the blending of a variety of barrels, we further develop its complexity and potential.

Le Domaine des Hospices de Beaune est certifié bio depuis la récolte 2024 et bien entendu nous élevons dans nos caves Albert Bichot ce vin en respectant cette philosophie respectueuse de l’environnement.

History of the cuvée

In 1645, Antoine Rousseau and Barbe Deslandes founded the Hôpital de la Sainte- Trinité, later renamed the Hospice de la Charité and associated with the Hospices de Beaune during the French Revolution. The hospital's vocation has evolved considerably over time: from a reception center for orphans from consecutive plague epidemics, it now houses a care center for the elderly. The Cent Vignes parcel, planted mainly between 1944 and 1958, constitutes the heart of this Cuvée, accounting for 60% of its composition. Overlooking Pommard and representing the remainder of the Cuvée, the Montrevenots parcel is made up exclusively of old vines planted before 1966.
