The 2024 vintage at the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune:
an "unusual" small harvest
Video - first analysis of the 2024 vintage by Ludivine Griveau, Hospices winemaker (Sept. 16, 2024)
"This final year of organic conversion has been a real challenge for a 60-hectare estate and represents the culmination of several years' work, which began in 2017. These years of conversion have been a success, since the wines of the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune were certified organic in 2024, right out of the winery.
This 2024 vintage, which was marked by heavy rainfall, 87% compared to a normal year, led us to a permanent upheaval in our decision-making. But our organization enabled us to be highly efficient and to optimally protect our 60-hectare vineyard. Harvesting at the estate began with the Pouilly-Fuissé plots on September 11, followed by the Côte d'Or Pinot Noir on September 13, and is continuing with the Chardonnay, ending on September 22 with the Corton and Echézeaux Grands Crus.
To date, the Hospices de Beaune vineyard is expecting a small harvest, due in large part to cold temperatures in May, late flowering of pinot noir and mildew.
The pinot noir grapes in vats are showing proven aromatic ripeness, very good aromas, very encouraging and lovely aromatic freshness. The Chardonnay grapes are not very golden, but have interesting aromatic flavors. The Chardonnay grapes are not very golden, but have interesting aromatic flavors.
