Mid october, end of vinifications: Ludivine Griveau presents the style and quality of the 2024 wines: a vintage of emotion and experience

At the end of the vinifications, Ludivine Griveau looks back at the conditions for success of the 2024 vintage, certified organic for the first time (and which we will be aging organically at Albert Bichot). A vintage with many challenges, with average yields (439, 5 barrels only), but which nevertheless offers very nice wines in the 2 colors, with a great aromatic richness.

The whites are characterized by energy, acidity, aromatic purity and a certain tension. The reds, depending on the sector, range from full-bodied and concentrated (Beaune and Volnay sectors), with more gripping tannins on Pommard, to more lacy and velvety on the Corton hillside and Côte de Nuits, with a certain delicacy.

According to Ludivine Griveau, there are several reasons for this qualitative success. An observation shared by our teams during our first tastings with her. They are:
- A judicious choice of harvest dates
- 10 years' experience at the head of the Domaine, giving her a detailed knowledge of the parcels and their behaviour.
- a successful collective effort thanks to a specific organization with 23 winegrowers: an incomparable strike force for work in the vineyard this year in particular.
- careful vinification, with a balance between know-how and emotion.

In other words, the winemaker's touch at the service of the Bourgogne terroirs. A quest for excellence we will continue during aging.

Finally, she presents the Pièce des Présidents, a unique cuvée of Beaune 1er Cru Les Bressandes, a real coup de coeur (crush) for the winemaker and a tribute to the Beaune roots of the Hospices since their foundation in 1443.

Harvest kick off (September 16, 2024): Ludivine Griveau presents the 2024 vintage challenging conditions

"This final year of organic conversion has been a real challenge for a 60-hectare estate and represents the culmination of several years' work, which began in 2017. These years of conversion have been a success, since the wines of the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune will be certified organic in 2024, right out of the winery.
This 2024 vintage, which was marked by heavy rainfall, 87% compared to a normal year, led us to a permanent upheaval in our decision-making. But our organization enabled us to be highly efficient and to optimally protect our 60-hectare vineyard. Harvesting at the estate began with the Pouilly-Fuissé plots on September 11, followed by the Côte d'Or Pinot Noir on September 13, and is continuing with the Chardonnay, ending on September 22 with the Corton and Echézeaux Grands Crus.
To date, the Hospices de Beaune vineyard is expecting a small harvest, due in large part to cold temperatures in May, late flowering of pinot noir and mildew.
The pinot noir grapes in vats are showing proven aromatic ripeness, very good aromas, very encouraging and lovely aromatic freshness. The Chardonnay grapes are not very golden, but have interesting aromatic flavors. The Chardonnay grapes are not very golden, but have interesting aromatic flavors.
