Presidential Barrel 2024: a single vineyard cuvée from Beaune 1er Cru Les Bressandes

Beaune 1er Cru Les Bressandes : the presidential barrel at Hospices de Beaune 2024 auction

Every year, the sale of this special, non-catalog piece thrills the room and the world: the Pièce des Présidents - also known as the Pièce de Charité is a true auction in the auction. Funds raised will go directly to support two charities. For the 2024 vintage, the piece chosen is a Beaune 1er Cru Les Bressandes cuvée from a single terroir. As Ludivine Griveau, Hospices régisseur since 2015, points out, "it's a cuvée and a terroir that really excited us this year. The aromatics were superb right from the harvest and throughout vinification".

Tasting notes. The wine has a deep ruby color, an intense bouquet of fresh red fruit and round tannins. The texture is silky and the oak will gradually blend in.

Médecins Sans Frontières and Global Gift Foundation: the 2 charities supported at the 2024 auction by the Pièce des Présidents sale

The money raised by the sale of this Beaune 1er Cru Les Bressandes will fund two associations in 2024: Médecins Sans Frontières and Global Gift Fondation. The associations' sponsors will be present at the sale on November 17, and there's no doubt they'll be putting all their enthusiasm into raising the bids as high as possible. They are Eva Longoria and Jean Reno for Global Gift Foundation and Dominic West and french actress Zabou Breitman for Médecins Sans Frontières

Will this wine beat the current record for the Pièce des Présidents, dating from 2022 with €810,000? See you on November 17!

A wine chosen for its qualitative potential, a real "crush" for Ludivine Griveau.

The Hospices régisseur since 2015 explains the choice of this Beaune 1er Cru Bressandes as Pièce des Présidents 2024.

"The choice of this wine as Pièce des Présidents was, as is very often the case, first and foremost the result of falling in love with its qualitative potential. From the very first moments of its making, everything has come together to make this a great wine. This begins in the vineyard, with the production of healthy organic grapes, virtually unsorted, concentrated, well-ripened, and therefore particularly qualitative in the vintage. Very early on in our daily tastings, it's this vat that stands out from the rest: its color, its very intense raspberry aromas, its subtle but full-bodied tannins...
The extraction is gentle and the wine quickly shows a very nice balance. At our estate, the Beaune 1er cru appellation is really coming into its own this year, both in terms of quantities produced, and quality. We felt it was important to demonstrate this with this choice. It also represents a significant proportion of our grape varieties, making our choice all the more legitimate. Grand cru wines have been in the spotlight in recent years, but this time we're turning our attention to a territory that's closer to our history! The Domaine des Hospices de Beaune owns 2.95 Ha in this climate. This is a central appellation for us, as it is used in the composition of 4 out of 10 of our Beaune 1er cru cuvées, and not the least: Guigone de Salins, Nicolas Rolin, Dames Hospitalieres and Brunet. Our plots are located at the top of the hillside on rather light soils with very loose calcareous clays. You can almost see a sandy structure. This always gives wines with a balanced attack and finesse, but with more robust finishes."
