Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges vintage 2024: Burgundian at heart

Albert Bichot presents the 2024 vintage at Domaine des Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges

As the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges auction approaches (March 9, 2025), we recently tasted all the wines to be presented in order to make our selection and offer it to our buyers. Here, in a few sentences, is Albert Bichot's technical team's deciphering of the 2024 vintage.

The 2024 vintage was marked by chaotic and particularly wet weather in the Nuits-Saint-Georges area, making vineyard work difficult. Pressure in the vineyard was significant throughout the vegetative cycle, leading to an exceptionally low yield, the lowest in the history of Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges with only 35.5 pieces at auction and even 4 cuvées not for sale at all this year.

However, despite these challenges, the harvest was saved in extremis by very favorable conditions at the end of the season, with a north wind that dried out the vines and allowed vendanges in good conditions, between September 19 and 24, 2024. The style of the wines from this extra-ordinary vintage is very expressive, with pretty freshness, classic balances, very Burgundian at heart, which express the nuances of each terroir. Jean-Marc Moron's expertise as a winemaker is to be commended in such an atypical year. The overall balance is good to very good, with the wines displaying beautiful concentration while remaining very elegant and sapid.

The wines of Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges 2024 leave - as usual - an important place to terroir, with a strong expression of each of them. A few days before the auction - quite logically - the tannins are present, firm but always elegant. Energy, length and balance could be three of the key words of the year. We'll have immense pleasure once again in bidding for and then raising these wines, which represent the soul of Burgundy, in their diversity of terroirs and flavors.
