2026 Auction: rare diseases supported by the charity barrel

Hospices de Beaune 2026 wine auction: the Pièce de Charité dedicated to the fight against rare diseases

The 166th Hospices de Beaune Wine Sale, to be held on November 15, 2026, will place research and support for people suffering from rare diseases at the heart of its commitment to solidarity. Hospices Civils de Beaune has announced that the proceeds from the traditional Pièce de Charité - also known as the "Pièce des Présidents" - will be donated to associations working in this field, thus continuing a philanthropic tradition that is the hallmark of this world-renowned event.

Each year, the Hospices de Beaune Wine Sale highlights a major public-interest cause through the sale of an exceptional cask of wine. For the 2026 edition, Hospices Civils de Beaune has chosen to support research into rare diseases, as well as actions to support patients and their families.

This choice responds to a major public health challenge. In France, nearly three million people live with a rare disease, often facing long and complex diagnostic paths. Through this initiative, the Hospices wish to contribute to reducing the number of people who remain undiagnosed, promote medical research and strengthen the support provided to those affected.

What is the Pièce de Charité (presidential barrel) from Hospices de Beaune?

A true symbol of the charitable dimension of the Wine Sale, the Pièce de Charité holds a special place in the Hospices de Beaune auctions. Since 1945, an exceptional barrel has been donated by the Hospices Civils de Beaune and sold to benefit one or more associations.

Generally from a prestigious terroir on the Hospices de Beaune estate, this unique lot attracts the attention of collectors, fine wine enthusiasts, patrons and personalities mobilized for the chosen cause every year. Beyond its oenological value, the Pièce des Présidents has become the embodiment of the Hospices' historic mission: to combine wine heritage, solidarity and social commitment.

Over the decades, this charity sale has supported numerous causes linked to health, medical research, childhood, disability and ageing well. In 2025, profits were donated to associations promoting technological innovation for the disabled.
