Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru Cuvée Madeleine Collignon

Domaine des Hospices de Beaune

Albert Bichot’s view

Intense red fruits (raspberry) envelop the palate, with fine-grained tannins and pleasant acidity as counterpoint. A wine of pure fruit from start to finish, with magical length. Enjoyable in its early years, it is also perfectly suited to long cellar ageing.

Food pairings

Capon stuffed with porcini mushrooms, filet mignon with herbs, tournedos rossini

Magnificent parcel in the heart of the Mazis Hauts hillside, on the same slope as Chambertin Clos de Bèze. The soil is a rich mixture of pebbles, scree and red clay. The nuances of this terroir are immutably expressed in the wines. The Pinot is dense, with silky, classy tannins. The finish is always round and generous, a guarantee of longevity.

Vinification and aging

This Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru Cuvée Madeleine Collignon has been skilfully vinified by the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune. Sold every year at the Hospices auction on the 3rd Sunday in November, Albert Bichot regularly buys this great wine on behalf of clients who then entrust us with its ageing in our cellars. During this important period, thanks to meticulous work and the blending of a variety of barrels, we further develop its complexity and potential.

Le Domaine des Hospices de Beaune est certifié bio depuis la récolte 2024 et bien entendu nous élevons dans nos caves Albert Bichot ce vin en respectant cette philosophie respectueuse de l’environnement.

History of the cuvée

This magnificent Grand Cru parcel was donated to the Hospices in 1976 by Jean Collignon and named in memory of his mother. It lies at the heart of the hillside in Mazis Hauts, on the same slope as the neighboring Chambertin Clos de Bèze. Almost 60% of the Cuvée comes from old vines planted in 1947. This undoubtedly contributes to the wine's remarkable density, silky tannins and consistently exceptional length on the palate.
