The iconic Hospices de Beaune label, a symbol of excellence and tradition

The Hospices de Beaune wine label combines the history of the estate with the notion of origin.

A label steeped in history

A timeless symbol of a winegrowing heritage unique in the world, the Hospices de Beaune label doesn't just identify a bottle: it tells a story. That of a hospital organization founded in the 15th century (1443 to be precise), and of a deep commitment to solidarity and excellence.

At the heart of this emblematic label are the coats of arms of the two co-founders of the Hospices: Nicolas Rolin, chancellor to the Duke of Burgundy, and Guigone de Salins, his wife. Their finely illustrated coats of arms recall the founding gesture of this visionary couple, who created the Hôtel-Dieu, a hospital for the most destitute, and an exceptional winegrowing estate, the fruits of which still nourish this charitable mission to this day.

An iconic Hospices label with valuable information

Each Hospices de Beaune label features a set of key, precise and highly symbolic information. Here's what it says:

- The appellation d'origine. An indication of the terroir (village, level of the plot) from which the wine comes: Pommard, Meursault, Volnay, or even Mazis-Chambertin... Each cuvée comes from a carefully delimited plot and is vinified in accordance with Burgundian traditions.

- The vintage, i.e. the year of harvest, a reflection of climatic conditions and the work of men. The vintage on the label anchors the cuvée in time and reveals its identity.

- The cuvée name. Each Hospices de Beaune wine bears a cuvée name, often dedicated to a donor or historical figure. This name contributes to the uniqueness of each bottle, further enriching the link between the wine and its history.

- Albert Bichot's signature. At the bottom of the label is the statement: "Élevé et mis en bouteille par Albert Bichot" (Matured and bottled by Albert Bichot). A guarantee of expertise, rigor and passion. As Hospices de Beaune's first historical buyer, Albert Bichot accompanies you every step of the way - from the auction purchase to the delivery of your bottles, perfectly aged for 12 to 18 months in our cellars.
