A new Clos de Vougeot plot and cuvée for the Hospices de Beaune thanks to Maison Faiveley

Clos de Vougeot cuvée François Faiveley: a new Côte de Nuits grand cru to be auctioned at Hospices de Beaune 2025

Early June 2025, during the last Chapitre de la confrérie du Tastevin at Clos de Vougeot, Maison Faiveley announced a donation of 4 ouvrées of Clos de Vougeot grand cru appellation vines to the Hospices de Beaune. The ouvrée is a unit of surface area common in Burgundy: one hectare corresponds to 24 ouvrées, so one ouvrée corresponds to 4.28 ares, or 428 m2. This will make it possible to offer 3 pièces (barrels) at the next auction on November 16, 2025.

The new Clos de Vougeot cuvée from the Hospices de Beaune will be named François Faiveley, a tribute to Francois Faiveley (1859-1918) and François Faiveley (1951), the 3rd and 6th generation representatives of the house established in Nuits-Saint-Georges since 1825 and celebrating its 200th anniversary this year. Faiveley has long owned a lovely parcel in this legendary appellation, in the southern part of Burgundy's most famous Clos. For the record, this new parcel is also close to our own Clos de Vougeot parcel at Domaine du Clos Frantin!

This donation bears witness to an ever-changing history at the Hospices, whose heritage has been built up over the centuries by these generous donations, enabling the institution to reach its current size of just over 60 ha. This new donation brings the number of wines up for auction to 52: 34 reds and 18 whites.

We can't wait to discover it after the 2025 harvest! If you'd like to acquire this promising new Clos de Vougeot cuvée, contact us without delay!

Historical links between Clos de Vougeot and Hospices de Beaune

The Château du Clos de Vougeot and the Hospices de Beaune are two emblems of Burgundy's wine heritage. Both embody the history, tradition and excellence of Burgundy wines. With this donation of 5 ouvrées in 2025, the Faiveley family perpetuates this unique link between tradition, terroir and charitable commitment.

The Château du Clos de Vougeot is also the venue for the chapters of the Confrérie du Tastevin, founded in 1934 by George Faiveley and Camille Rodier, two famous figures from Nuits-Saint-Georges. On the eve of the Hospices de Beaune auction, the Saturday before the sale, one of the brotherhood's most famous chapters is held. With the Hospices sale on Sunday and the Paulée de Meursault, these three events make up what's known as "Les Trois Glorieuses", three great festivals that put the and Burgundy in the spotlight.
