3 new vineyards and plots at Domaine des Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges

A high-level domain at the service of the Hospital

The winegrowing hospital has prospered for centuries, thanks in particular to donations and bequests of vines from local families since 1633. The names of the vintages pay tribute to the personalities who have marked the history of the Hospices and the village of Nuits, as well as to these generous donors. The winery is therefore part of the hospital, and the profits from its operations are donated to it every year. Jean-Marc Moron, estate manager, looks after 12.4 hectares of vines, accompanied by three winemakers and a team of seasonal workers in spring and during the harvest. The estate practices integrated viticulture.

The estate's vineyards are mainly located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, with eight in the village appellation and nine in the premier cru. 19 cuvées are produced when conditions permit, reflecting the diversity of the appellation's terroirs. One of these comes from a parcel of land cultivated as a monopoly in the "Les Didiers" permier cru, and the production also includes a rare nuits-saint-georges blanc, the 1er cru Les Terres Blanches.

2026: addition of 3 new plots to the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges estate

In 2026, the Hospices de Nuits took over the management of three vineyard parcels located in the commune of Nuits-Saint-Georges, representing an important step in the development of their winegrowing heritage. The three parcels are distributed as follows:
- 13.71 ares of Nuits-Saint-Georges village rouge "Aux Saint-Julien", which will be integrated into the Claude Poyen cuvée, in which this terroir is already represented.
- 46.88 ares (almost 1/2 hectare) of Nuits-Saint-Georges village rouge "Aux Saint- Jacques", enabling the creation of a new village cuvée.
- 22.88 ares of Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru rouge "Les Perrières", which will become the tenth Premier Cru de Nuits-Saint-Georges represented in the Vente des Hospices cuvées.

These parcels were bequeathed to the Hospices de Nuits in the 1990s and early 2000s by Georges and Georgette Jeanniard, brother and sister natives of Nuits-Saint-Georges, with no direct descendants. At the time of the bequest, the vines were farmed by Domaine Jean Chauvenet in Nuits-Saint-Georges. In 2025, Christophe and Christine Drag, the current owners, decided to terminate the lease and return the entire vineyard to the Hospices.

Today, this takeover enables the Hospices de Nuits to return fully to the original intention of the benefactors, while ensuring the development of this exceptional winegrowing heritage. The Hospices de Nuits would like to express their deep gratitude to the Jeanniard family for this generous donation, and to Domaine Jean Chauvenet for the care they have taken of these lands over the years.
