Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru Cuvée Baronne Du Baÿ

Domaine des Hospices de Beaune

Albert Bichot’s view

Intense red color with violet highlights. Elegant, powerful nose of black fruit with a hint of menthol. Ample and generous on the palate, with good persistence. Very elegant, suave finish.

Food pairings

Sweetbreads with chanterelle mushrooms, chicken chasseur, steak tartare

This is one of Corton's most prestigious climats. This cuvée is made up of two parcels of land with steep, east-facing slopes. The soils are stony and clayey, with a light, airy grading, resulting in a robust yet racy wine with a velvety texture and excellent ageing potential. The wine combines the elegance and power expected of a Corton.

Vinification and aging

This Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru Cuvée Baronne Du Baÿ has been skilfully vinified by the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune. Sold every year at the Hospices auction on the 3rd Sunday in November, Albert Bichot regularly buys this great wine on behalf of clients who then entrust us with its ageing in our cellars. During this important period, thanks to meticulous work and the blending of a variety of barrels, we further develop its complexity and potential.

The Domaine des Hospices de Beaune has been certified organic since the 2024 harvest, and we naturally age your wine in our Albert Bichot cellars in line with this environmentally-friendly philosophy.

History of the cuvée

In 1924, Baroness Du Baÿ, daughter of Doctor Peste who worked at the Hôtel-Dieu, donated parcels of vines on the Aloxe-Corton hillside. Since 2007, this Cuvée has been vinified individually. This brings out the full expression of the terroir of this Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru, renowned for producing delicately structured, long-lived wines. Pinot Noir vines planted 40 or more years ago account for 45% of this cuvée, with the remainder aged between 26 and 14 years.
