Beaune 1er Cru Cuvée Clos des Avaux

Domaine des Hospices de Beaune

Albert Bichot’s view

Intense color testifies to the generosity of Clos des Avaux. Vibrant nose of black fruit, well-balanced acidity for a rather firm finish.

Food pairings

Risotto with cumin or lightly spiced wok. Lamb kebab, Brie de Meaux cheeses.

The vineyards are located at the foot of the slopes. The soils are clayey, quite brown, even a little heavy. This cuvée regularly produces tannic wines with a deep color and a generous, rich structure, providing excellent ageing potential. This is a climate synonymous with power in AOC Beaune 1er cru.

Vinification and aging

This Beaune 1er Cru Cuvée Clos des Avaux has been skilfully vinified by the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune. Sold every year at the Hospices auction on the 3rd Sunday in November, Albert Bichot regularly buys this great wine on behalf of clients who then entrust us with its ageing in our cellars. During this important period, thanks to meticulous work and the blending of a variety of barrels, we further develop its complexity and potential.

Le Domaine des Hospices de Beaune est certifié bio depuis la récolte 2024 et bien entendu nous élevons dans nos caves Albert Bichot ce vin en respectant cette philosophie respectueuse de l’environnement.

History of the cuvée

The name Les Avaux derives from the locality Vaux - or Val - meaning a depression in the slope where the vines are located. Before the French Revolution, they belonged to the Hospice de la Charité. Vineyards planted in the 1980s or earlier make up 42% of the Cuvée.
