History

In 1645, Antoine Rousseau and Barbe Deslandes founded the Hôpital de la Sainte-Trinité, later known as the Hospice de la Charité. Initially, it welcomed orphans after plague epidemics; today it is an old people’s home. Les Cent Vignes with the majority of its vines dating between 1944 and 1958 is at the heart of this Cuvée (60% of the plantings). Close to Pommard, Les Montrevenots represents the balance of the Cuvée, with all its vines planted prior to 1966.

Corton Grand Cru Les Renardes

PDF

Region: Côte de Beaune
Village: Aloxe-Corton
Level: Grand Cru
AOC: Corton Grand Cru
Grapes: Pinot Noir
Color: red

Tasting

This terroir has a strong identity which is harmoniously expressed in the wine. The strength of its clay brings a tannic and full-bodied texture; the chalky and stony soil allows for the production of a pinot noir combining subtlety and complexity. This is undoubtedly what makes it one of the most renowned wine-growing plots in the Corton hillside, promising powerful wines with a high ageing potential. Since 2016, the Hospices de Beaune has separated its four Corton terroirs during the vinification process, a decision that makes sense both qualitatively and for the Burgundian identity of the Hospices.

Food matching

Duck, game, strong cheeses

History

This cuvée Corton Grand Cru Les Renardes was introduced at the Hospices de Beaune wine auction 2022.

Corton Grand Cru
Cuvée Docteur Peste 2020

PDF

Region: Côte de Beaune
Village: Aloxe-Corton
Level: Grand Cru
AOC: Corton Grand Cru
Grapes: Pinot Noir
Color: red

Tasting

A very solid dense purple black colour indicates a wine of considerable intensity. The fruit is luxurious in quality, definitely showing some black-fruit notes, and full enough to match the firm structure of the finish. This is a powerful Corton with a real cellaring potential.

Food matching

The wine’s power deserves a cuisine on a par: beautiful grilled red meats, game or strong cheese.

History

Jean-Louis Peste was a doctor at the Hospices de Beaune for 30 years in the mid-19th century. His daughter, Baroness du Baÿ, bequeathed a vast estate to the Hôtel-Dieu in his memory, in 1924. Made from 89% fully mature, or very old vines, this Cuvée comes principally (52%) from Chaumes et Voierosses, which is south and south-west-facing land. These vines were planted 4 times between 1976 and 1985. Les Bressandes, whose oldest vines date from 1940, with Les Grèves bring complexity, richness and balance to this Cuvée.

Level: Premier Cru
AOC: Beaune Grèves 1er Cru

Seared duck breast. Feathered game. Chicken with a creamy mustard sauce

History

This Cuvee results from a legacy of Premiers Crus Beaune-Grèves by Pierre Floquet in 1997.
Until 2003 the vines were leased out, but now the Hospices de Beaune cultivates 3∕4 ha., which allowed a new Cuvée to see the light of day for the frst time in 2004. The age of the vines is not exactly known, but they are estimated to be about 35 years old. The vines lie partly alongside, and partly just uphill from the very heart of the famous Premier Cru Les Grèves.

Beaune 1er Cru Cuvée Guigone de Salins 2018

PDF

Grapes: Pinot Noir
Color: red

Tasting

Nice bright red hue. Nose both powerful and subtle, with a mix of red fruits followed by toasty aromas. Good length and density, with racy tannins.

Food matching

Enjoy with open-fire grilled red meats (T-bone) or strong cheese.

History

Guigone de Salins was the wife of Nicolas Rolin, founder of the Hospices de Beaune. After his death in 1461, she moved from Autun to Beaune to take over the direction of the Hôtel-Dieu. She devoted much of her fortune to this cause, while helping to care for the sick and enfeebled, until her death aged 67.
The steep slopes of Les Bressandes – planted in 1980, 1977 or the 1960s – constitute virtually half this famous Cuvée, which is one of the longestliving Beaunes.

Terroirs

Les Bressandes 1.2 ha.,

Les Seurey 0.83 ha.,
