Terroirs

Les Rouges is a beautiful location above the Echezeaux grand cru, on a steep hillside, a tiny plot (a fifth of an hectare!)

Know-how: hand harvested in 12 kg baskets. Low yields and immensely concentrated grapes. A small portion of whole cluster. Traditional vinification in oak open vats for 3 weeks. Then brought by gravity in oak for ageing during 12 to 15 months in barrels from the finest origins.

With their calcareous clay soil (Jurassic rocks), our Hautes-Côtes de Nuits vineyards are located on a plateau behind the famous Côte de Nuits at an altitude of between 300 and 400 metres. Exposure varies from south to east, allowing the vines to benefit from maximum sunlight.
Les Dames Huguettes is a wine produced from grapes selected from the best terroirs of the Hautes-Côtes area that have particularly good exposure. As a result, this wine has a mineral profile but is also bursting with freshness and generosity.

History

From 1626, the Lamarosse family linked its destiny to Beaune. Its first known representative was Anatole, a cooper, then numerous descendants were leading Burgundy wine exporters throughout the world, in the 19th century. The last descendant left her house and vineyards to the Hospices de Beaune and to her native village, Pernand. These 30-year-old vines are perfectly situated to catch the rising sun, which starts the ripening process each morning.

History

This gift to the Hospices was made in gothic lettering on parchment, in 1534. “For the cure and salvation of her soul,” the childless Charlotte Dumay, wife of the King’s Keeper of the Mint in Dijon, gave 100 ouvrées of vineyard and fallow land in the territory of Aloxe, with a house in stone. Today, this is one of the Hospices’s longest-lived, most sumptuously structured wines. Corton-Renardes makes up 63% of the Cuvée, Corton-Bressandes the balance, the vines being planted on a total of 24 different sectors of the famous hillside.

History

This Cuvee results from a legacy of Premiers Crus Beaune-Grèves by Pierre Floquet in 1997.
Until 2003 the vines were leased out, but now the Hospices de Beaune cultivates 3∕4 ha., which allowed a new Cuvée to see the light of day for the frst time in 2004. The age of the vines is not exactly known, but they are estimated to be about 35 years old. The vines lie partly alongside, and partly just uphill from the very heart of the famous Premier Cru Les Grèves.
