Albert Bichot and the Hospices de Beaune:
a special relationship since 1876
Hospices de Beaune: our passion
Founded in 1831, Maison Albert Bichot owns 106 hectares of certified organic vines, spread over six prestigious estates, and embodies the excellence of Burgundy terroirs. Since 1876, Albert Bichot has participated in the Hospices de Beaune auctions, supporting the values of charity and the local hospital, with landmark acquisitions including, on numerous occasions, the Pièce des Présidents.
For the past 30 years, Albert Bichot has been the leading buyer at the auction, buying around 25% of the lots each year for its customers around the world. Thanks to a personalized approach and the www.hospices-beaune.com by Albert Bichot website, an innovative digital platform launched in 2009, our Maison offers Hospices buyers a unique experience, blending tradition and modernity. We cultivate a relationship of trust and proximity with our customers, both professionals and connoisseurs from France and around the world, to give them serene access to the prestigious world of Hospices de Beaune wines.
A great Burgundy house founded in 1831, owner of 6 exceptional Domaines
The Bichot family has been rooted in Burgundy since 1350, a century before the Hôtel-Dieu was founded. In 1831, Bernard Bichot founded a trading house in his name. The family legacy has been handed down from father to son down to the present day. Albéric Bichot has a visceral attachment to Burgundy and the Hospices de Beaune. Today, Albert Bichot owns 106 hectares of certified organic vineyards across 6 exceptional estates, including Château Long-Depaquit in Chablis, Domaine du Clos Frantin in Nuits-Saint-Georges and Domaine du Pavillon in Pommard.
Our first-rate vineyards give us a complete understanding of each vintage and a fine knowledge of the terroirs. Thus, many of our estates' plots are close to those of the Hospices, and our teams gladly exchange views with Ludivine Griveau and her teams throughout the year.
Our commitment to a sustainable viticulture, as pionneers of organic farming, allows us to age Hospices wines with the utter respect of their organic certification.
Charitable values shared by our Maison with the Hospices de Beaune since 1876
The first Hospices auctions date back to 1859 and in 1876 our house Albert Bichot places its first bids! We haven't stopped since: for 150 years, we've participated in the auction every year with the same enthusiasm and the same objective: to support our hospital and the universal values of charity it upholds. Two other signs illustrate this strong and recognized family commitment.
Firstly, since the 2000s, some of our customers have acquired 7 times the Pièce des Présidents, the very special wine resulting from an "auction within an auction".
- 2004: Mazis-Chambertin Cuvée Madeleine Collignon - €51,000
- 2008: Pommard 1er Cru Dames de la Charité - €50,000
- 2011: Corton Clos du Roi Baronne du Baÿ - €110,000
- 2012: Corton grand cru, cuvée Charlotte Dumay - €270,000
- 2014: Corton Bressandes - €220,000
- 2017: Corton Grand Cru Clos du Roi and Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières - €230,000
- 2020: Clos de la Roche Grand Cru: €660,000
Then, in 2009, our house revolutionized the Hospices de Beaune auction with the launch of www.hospices-beaune.com by Albert Bichot. This innovative digital service allows winelovers from all over the world to bid and buy online in full confidence these exceptional wines, from one bottle to a complete barrel.
Albert Bichot: the Hospices de Beaune #1 buyer for 30 years
For 30 years, Albert Bichot has been the proud number 1 buyer at the Vente des Vins des Hospices de Beaune. We buy an average of 25% of the total sale, i.e. around 150 barrels and generally 35 to 40 different cuvées, from the most accessible to the most iconic. Of course, at each auction we select several pièces (barrels) for ourselves, for tasting and sale, but the vast majority are acquired specifically for customers from all over the world. Whether they are professionals (importers, wine merchants, restaurateurs) or private individuals, they are all winelovers and place their trust in us and. Their loyalty is precious and the best reward.
Advising our customers on the choice of this or that wine, creating a tailor-made auction plan, welcoming them during the auction or tasting their wine together from the barrel during its aging time in our cellars... it's a know-how and a relationship with each customer that we cultivate. Jean-David Camus is our Hospices de Beaune specialist, here to help and provide a personal guidance at each step of the process.
Our aim is to provide each buyer with an intense, memorable and convivial Hospices by Albert Bichot experience.
