Hospices de Beaune : a guide to the last vintages
In Bourgogne and for the Hospices, each year has its own flavour and style!
A great terroir is of course characterized by a combination of factors. Soils that are often poor, from which the vines will draw their roots deeply, plant material and a suitable planting system...and of course the winemaker's know-how! But all these elements are also under the direct influence of the elements: water, rain, wind, the rhythm of the seasons... everything that in fine characterizes and defines a vintage effect.
If Albert Bichot is recognized as an expert on the Hospices de Beaune, having been the number 1 buyer at this exceptional auction for a very long time, it's because we take particular care to analyze the vintage conditions and their impact on the wines we select during numerous tastings between the harvest and the auction in mid-November, in order to offer them to our customers in purchase primeur.
Recent climatic developments and our growing mastery of oenological knowledge as well as developments in harvesting and winemaking equipment are also valuable assets in Ludivine Griveau, as winemaker, or by our teams in charge of ageing, of each year's conditions.
