AOC: Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru

Tasting

Fine pale lemon colour. This has plenty of ripe fruit and flowers (rose, peony) evident from the start. The fruit continues beautifully across the palate, freshening up towards the back, with an excellent integration of fine-boned acidity and fruit right at the finish. Very persistent, this cuvée is always something special.

Food matching

Grilled lobster, cheese soufflé, veal roast, saint-nectaire cheese.

History

This Cuvée pays homage to Philippe le Bon Duke of Burgundy (1419- 1467), who gave his backing and authority to Chancellor Nicolas Rolin, during the latter’s establishment of the Hôtel-Dieu, from 1443. It is regularly one of the fnest whites, and fercely contested at auction. The Genevrières dessous section was half planted in 1978, half in 2001, with the dessus section dating from 2009.
