  • WHAT CRITERIA DOES ALBERT BICHOT USE TO SELECT THESE CUVEES?

With more than 130 Hospices sales to its credit, Albert Bichot has an objective view and detailed knowledge of the Hospices wines. Of course Albert Bichot is also the owner of 4 domaines and 100 hectares of vines in Burgundy, including certain vineyard parcels in the immediate vicinity of the Hospices vineyards whose grapes will go into the wines sold at auction on 18th November 2012.
The following are the main selection criteria :

    • 1The consistency and the panorama of the Burgundy terroirs that these wines offer. For the 2011 selection, we had 5 very different red wines, from a radus of under 8 kms, all of course from the same grape variety, Pinot Noir. What better illustration of the subtlety of Burgundy… where a single grape variety, grown in a great domaine like that of the Hospices, can create wines with such personality. This is an example of the magic of the ” climats de Bourgogne “, who have applied for recognition as a world heritage site .
    • 2Albert Bichot’s experienced, objective assessment of these 4 cuvées. Albert Bichot has been buying wine at the Hospices since 1876. We have been the top buyer by volume (nearly 100 pièces each year) for 15 years as well as top buyer in terms of number of different cuvées bought. In 2010, Albert Bichot bought 29 different “cuvées”, out of a total of 45 available. This is a clear indicator of our savoir-faire and the trust placed in us by our customers from around the world. • 3The 2012 vintage cuvées’ quality. We have carefully followed the cuvées at all stages of the 2012 wine year: growth cycle, harvesting, vinification etc . We won’t hesitate to replace one cuvée with another if, at at one of our many tastings before the sale (see the video here) we find that the wine has not reached the predicted quality level.  For example : we did this in 2010 – 4 days before the sale, we replaced a Meursault Goureau cuvée by a Meursault 1er Cru Les Porusots cuvée that we thought offered better potential. Rest assured: only quality counts!
