Maison Albert Bichot also successfully bid for a further 97 barrels, covering 33 different appellations and at a total cost of 569,500 euros, once again confirming the house as the biggest buyer at the auction.

The purchases, along with those of other buyers, contribute to the improvement of equipment at the

Hospital in Beaune, to the modernisation of infrastructures and to the preservation of historic monuments such as the Hôtel-Dieu that draws so many wine lovers to the beautiful town of Beaune every year.

761 barrels were sold in 2011, covering 45 Cuvées, of which 32 were red and 13 white, compared to 647 barrels in 2010. Bids in 2011 totalled 4.9 million euros.

Albéric Bichot commented on the sale :

“In an uncertain economic context, amateurs and professionals from all around the world have still supported this event. Even if the average price per barrel has decreased, it is necessary to bear in mind that the previous years prices were very high. After two consecutive years of sharp increases, this price decrease was necessary. If Burgundy is to continue to attract attention from wine lovers, it is necessary for us to remain reasonable and continue to make Burgundy wines that shine all over the world “.
